New York

New York, New York

After 6 days in New York I can definitely say that has exceeded my expectations of how much i was going to love it, the city is truly incredible.

Day 1 - Monday : in the morning we set out for New York from Heathrow airport and arrived at our hotel around 4/4:30 in the afternoon it took us around an hour to set in then we set straight out to times square in the -5 degrees weather and ate at the hard rock cafe as well as taking in everything that was around us.

Day 2 - Tuesday : Our first official day so we decided to go to do the whole 9/11 experience, this was such an emotional experience, you hear about things that happen such as 9/11 and feel sad for everyone who is affected but move on from it quickly however going to the exhibition really makes you think differently when you are seeing real life footage and belongings of people being trapped and involved with the tragic event just puts it in a whole different perspective.
Having done the 9/11 experience we felt it was only right to go to the One Trade World Centre which is right next to this, this was such a beautiful view! standing at the top of the tallest building in the western hemisphere being able to see every angle of New York from this building.
Next stop was Brooklyn and the Brooklyn bridge, it was so cool to walk over a bridge that you see in just about every american movie and TV programme and say that you have been there and done that,
it was a beautiful view being able to see New York, New York from quite a far distance and all of the different buildings in the distance look so small when far away but so tall when so close.
Having finished the daytime activities we were hungry and needed to sit down so we jumped back on the subway and met our friends for some pizza before heading to the Empire State building where we were got to see the city lit up from a scary and very windy height hoping we wouldn't get blown off of the top of the building.

Day 3 - Wednesday : Our second day in NYC and I started it off with some bacon pancakes from Ellens stardust diner, this was quite an odd place you were seated and served whilst Broadway wannabes would break out in song and dance around the restaurant trying to include all of their customers to join in and have fun whilst enjoying their meal making it a different kind of experience. After this is couldn't wait to get to Madison Square Gardens and go on the All Access tour where we got taken around the arena and see where all the sporting and musical events take place, getting to visit the VIP rooms and seat at the best seats in the house although we didn't really get to see anything being performed.
The rest of our day consisted of us heading up to the Upper East Side feeling like true upper east siders where we visited the Met museum and explored the beautiful pieces of art work then sat on the met steps obviously in the exact same spot where Queen B Blair Waldorf sat feeling like we were royalty with a little walk around central park before it got too dark. To complete our evening we walked back towards our hotel and stopped off for some food at Grand Central whilst exploring high end fashion stores such as the famous Tiffany's.

Day 4 - Thursday : A day for shopping, this is when we took a trip to wood-bury common a lot of people had told us its really good to go shopping here due it to it being an outlet centre therefore we couldnt not go. I spent lots of money and tired myself out that I had to have a 3 hour lay down when i got back to my hotel room before going to get some dinner at planet hollywood where we met up with some of our friends followed by more shopping.

Day 5 - Friday : For the first half of our day we went on our trip to the Garment District where we got to speak to different people who are well in with fashion and know everything that you would want to know (explained more in my blog post about the Garment District tour). We started our afternoon by heading down to Greenwich, it was like a nice break down there as if the city wasn't as rushed as everywhere else i almost felt relaxed for a while whilst sitting around the fountain at Washington Square park. Next stop was Top of the Rock where we waited until the sun set so we could see new york go from daytime to nighttime (top of the rock blog) this followed with one last meal at a burger restaurant and some last minute shopping before we had our final sleep at the Wolcott Hotel.

Day 6 - Saturday (final day/home time) On our final morning in New York we thought we should finish it off with a McDonalds breakfast and a chilly walk around the High Line where we ended up in Chelsea. With a few hour to kill we decided to look around Chelsea Market where we found the cutest necklaces that were antiques from the 70's which I had to buy. Our last stop was the FIT Museum where they had an exhibition on for Black Designers and all of their different styles which was very interesting and also helped me with my current project. Having finished all of our activities it was time to head back to our hotel ready for our trip home back to London.

New York well and truly knackered me out but it was soooo worth it, an incredible trip I will never forget.
